Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with fervour across the region today as thousands of devotees gathered at Jama Masjid in the morning to offer prayers. People from all walks of life and religions reached the masjid to celebrate the festival.

Shahi Imam of Punjab Maulana Mohammad Usman Ludhianvi said forces that wanted to destroy the country’s peace would be given a befitting reply. Shahi Suman said the festival teaches people to spread love and affection. He said he hoped the day brought peace and prosperity to everyone. He said the country was like a bouquet of flowers that had people from various religions and they will not let this bouquet scatter.

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora extended his wishes not only to Muslims but to the whole nation, stating that he hoped the special day brought everyone lots of happiness, prosperity, and wonderful moments together.

Addressing thousands of Muslims during the state-level function at Jama Masjid, he added that the Shahi Imam had always worked for the peace and prosperity of Punjab’s people. He said, “Ludhiana city is a bouquet of people of all religions. All its flowers keep the atmosphere pleasant with their fragrance. The historic Jama Masjid of Ludhiana is the main religious centre of Muslims, and is a symbol of peace and love for people of all religions.” Arora also announced Rs 2.50 lakh for the ongoing construction work at Jama Masjid. Among others, MLAs Ashok Prashar Pappi, Madan Lal Bagga, Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Parashar, Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib Mukh Sewadar Pritpal Singh and Jama Masjid Ludhiana president Mohd Mustkeem were present.

On the occasion, MP Arora presented a copy of the Constitution of India to the Shahi Imam. MLA Pappi termed Arora as a “Vikas Purush” who had proved himself as a development-oriented leader and a leader of the poor and needy.

Marks end of Ramzan

Mandi Ahmedgarh/ Raikot: A number of followers of Islam gathered at mosques to perform Namaz after 30 days of rozas (fasting) on Monday. Also known as Meethi Eid, the festival was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety by all sections of the Muslim community in the region. After performing obligatory zakat, fitrah and eidee, Muslims gathered at various idgahs to offer community prayers.

While preparations for the festival began many days ago, formal celebrations commenced with a community prayer at various mosques in the area. Preachers of the community led the enthusiasts as they prayed for communal harmony and universal prosperity. — OC
