To promote cleanliness across the city, Mayor Inderjit Kaur launched a cleanliness drive from Middha Chowk on Thursday as she visited the area around 7 am.

Accompanied by the area’s councillor, Kapil Kumar Sonu, and MC Joint Commissioner Ankur Mahindroo, Inderjit also took a round in the area to inspect the state of cleanliness and issued necessary directions to the civic body staff.

The Mayor directed the health branch officials to check the attendance of sweepers on a regular basis and said no laxity would be tolerated in terms of cleanliness. She also took feedback from the sweepers and directed the officials concerned to ensure that sweepers did not face a shortage of brooms, sticks etc.

Inderjit also urged residents to support the civic body in keeping the city clean and green by not dumping waste/garbage in open spaces. Further, she said she would be conducting surprise inspections in the future, and senior officials had also been directed to monitor the situation in their respective areas. Similar cleanliness drives would also be launched in other areas of the city, she said.
