After weeks of delay and political friction, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation’s Finance and Contract Committee (FCC) finally convened today to clear a backlog of civic development proposals. Of the 393 items on the agenda, 200 projects were approved, including tenders for road repairs, park maintenance, installation of tube wells, and procurement of machinery. The remaining 193 proposals are expected to be passed in the follow-up meeting scheduled for Wednesday, said Mayor Inderjit Kaur.

The meeting marks a significant shift from the last FCC session held on July 26, which was abruptly adjourned after Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Prashar and Deputy Mayor Prince Johar staged a walkout. The duo had accused the mayor of brushing aside allegations of irregularities in the tendering process.

Monday’s meeting, however, proceeded with relative calm and focused on clearing long-pending infrastructure works across Ludhiana’s 95 municipal wards. The proposals included, upgrades to water supply and sewerage systems, road reconstruction and pothole repairs, maintenance of parks and installation of open gyms etc.

the Mayor emphasised transparency and equal treatment across wards. “We are committed to ensuring every councillor’s development quota is properly recorded and tracked,” she said.

If passed in full, the 393 proposals could reshape Ludhiana’s civic landscape for the coming year, addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps and public service needs.
