Cracking the whip on illegal colonies, Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal conducted a surprise inspection in areas falling under the Zone C of the civic body and ordered strict action against five illegal colonies in Shimlapuri, Jaspal Bangar and Kanganwal on Saturday.

The civic body officials concerned have been directed to lodge FIR against a coloniser and demolish/seal buildings in the illegal colonies.

Further, the MC Commissioner ordered that strict departmental action would be taken against the ATPs concerned and building inspectors for their failure to act against the illegal constructions.

MC Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh, Zonal Commissioner Gurpal Singh and ATP Navneet Khokhar were among other officials present during the inspection.

The officials concerned have been directed to lodge an FIR against a coloniser for establishing an illegal colony near Dhand Palace in Shimlapuri. Further, directions have been issued to seal unoccupied buildings and demolish under-construction buildings in the colony. The officials had also been directed to work on attaching property of the builder of the colony.

Further, action was taken against Ganpati Colony, near Morgan crossing, and Krishna Colony. Directions were given to officials to seal unoccupied buildings and demolish under-construction buildings. They had also been told to write to Revenue Department officials/tehsildar for putting a halt to registries in these colonies.

Later, action was taken against two colonies in the Kanganwal area. Besides taking action against the illegal constructions, building branch officials had been directed to seal the gate of a colony, which was being established illegally.

The MC Commissioner said strict departmental action would also be taken against the ATPs and building inspectors concerned who were deputed in these areas and failed to act against the unauthorised colonies.

Dachalwal said he would continue to conduct surprise inspections and strict action would be taken against illegal constructions and the officials concerned of the building branch.
