After spreading awareness among the street vendors regarding hygienic practices for around eleven months, the closing ceremony of Capacity Building Training Programme by PGIMER, Chandigarh, was held at the Municipal Corporation (MC) Zone A office on Thursday.

The capacity building training programme was organised in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh. MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi was the chief guest during the ceremony which was attended by a large number of street vendors and civic body officials.

The comprehensive training programme, commenced in the month of October last year, aimed to empower street vendors by providing essential skills to improve their livelihoods and sustain their business in the market place. Addressing the gathering, MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi emphasised on how crucial food safety was to protect public health.

Additional Professor from PGIMER, Dr Poonam Khanna stressed on sanitation, appropriate food storage and personal cleanliness during the training session.

A specialised team from the PGIMER delivered a lecture on food safety, hygiene and the harmful effects of tobacco consumption to the street vendors.

A nukkad natak was presented during the training session to encourage the street vendors to maintain hygiene as this would also help building their business.

City Mission Manager MC Ludhiana, Shilpa Kapoor said the street vendors participating in the training programme were felicitated with certificates and safety kits were also provided to the street vendors.
