Ludhiana, July 18
Keeping in view the spread of water-borne disease during the rainy season, officials of the Municipal Corporation and the Health Department have pulled up their socks and started collecting water samples to check irregularities, if any.
Chief Secretary Anurag Verma in a meeting here has directed the Municipal Corporation to ensure chlorination of water and also collect samples of water supplied to residential areas. On the other hand, the Director, Health and Family Welfare, Dr Hitinder Kaur, has issued directions to the Health Department to collect water samples for testing. A target of collection of 400 water samples per month has been given to the department.
In case of spread of any water-borne diseases, the collection of samples should be increased. The samples will be sent to the state public health laboratory at Kharar for testing. The MC targets to collect nearly 100 samples per day and the testing will be done at the PAU. MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi said they had prepared a list of high-risk areas and emphasis would be laid on the areas while samples from other localities would also be collected.
