MC team seizes 50-kg plastic bags from vegetable market

Officials say action to continue in coming days

Taking stern action over the use of banned plastic carry bags in the city, a team of the Municipal Corporation (MC) conducted a raid at the vegetable market near sports complex in Sector 39 (Chandigarh Road) on Monday.

Working on the directions of MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal and Zonal Commissioner (Zone-B) Neeraj Jain, a raid was conducted by joint team of health and tehbazari wing of the MC Zone-B office. The team was led by sanitary inspector Nishu Ghai and tehbazari inspector Sunil Kumar.

Around 50 kg of banned plastic bags were confiscated by the civic body team and a strict warning was also issued to the vendors in the vegetable market against using these bags. The civic body officials also urged residents to stop using these banned plastic bags. They urged residents to replace plastic bags with jute or cloth ones.

The civic body officials stated that action against the use of banned plastic carry bags would continue in the coming days, too.
