The village residents, who were supported by Nihangs, staged a dharna, thus bringing the entire traffic, along the nearby expressway, to a sudden halt. They demanded the victim to be traced at the earliest and immediate action against the migrants who committed the crime. The dharna was lifted after the police registered a case against the suspects and arrested the four persons named in the FIR by the younger brother of the victim.

As per information provided by onlookers, Gurwinder Singh, alias Mani, along with his brother Rupinder Singh, both residents of Harnampura, and Gurmit Singh Dum, a boy from Natt village, were standing near the Jaspal Bangar cut on the expressway when a group of around six migrants attacked them with sharp weapons and threw Gurwinder in the Sidhwal Canal. The younger brother of Gurwinder, along with his friend from Natt village, reached home, in an injured state, to inform his parents. In no time, the villagers reached the scene where the onlookers had already caught three of the migrants involved in the crime. The suspects were also thrashed by the residents. Ram Naresh of Jaspal Bangar was later taken to the Civil Hospital from where he was shifted to the CMCH in Ludhiana.

Later, the villagers of Harnampura, along with a group of Nihangs, staged a protest on the expressway, calling for tracing of the victim and the immediate arrest of the migrants involved in the incident. The police tried to convince the protesters to lift the dharna, which brought the traffic to a standstill but it was not lifted till the police registered a case and nabbed the suspects. The villagers are demanding strict action against the culprits.

A case under various sections of the IPC has been registered on the complaint of the younger brother of Gurwinder against Ram Naresh and Vijay Kumar of Jaspal Bangar and Akshay Kumar and Ram Babu.
