Minister Arora to open Saras Mela at PAU grounds today
Bhangra, giddha workshops to be organised on Day 1
The much-awaited Saras Festival is all set to begin at the PAU grounds tomorrow and will continue till October 13. Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora will inaugurate the event at 11 am.
Sharing details, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain said, “As many as 500 stalls will be set up by exhibitors from across the country. We are expecting a footfall of nearly 10 lakh visitors during the festival.”
For making the event a success, the district administration has been on its toes for the past 20 days, arranging star singers, comedians, guests and other attractions.
The 10-day extravaganza will feature cultural performances daily from three different states, food delicacies from across India, swings and rides for children and star nights.
Entry to the event will be free for government schoolchildren and mediapersons, carrying their ID cards. The event is being organised under Rangla Punjab Mission and Chardi Kalan initiatives.
On October 4, participants will immerse themselves in the energy of bhangra and giddha workshop which will be followed by a painting competition on October 5, where artists can showcase their creativity. On October 6, a turban-tying workshop will be organised, while a live pottery workshop will be held on October 7 to explore the art of clay. The creativity will continue with a bottle painting competition on October 8, a mehndi competition on October 9 and a rangoli-making competition on October 10. An origami workshop on October 11 will offer a unique crafting experience, followed by a face painting competition on October 12. The festival will conclude on October 13 with a photography competition, capturing the essence of the event through the lens.
DC Jain emphasised the significance of the initiative, stating that the SARAS Mela was a platform to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and artistic talent of people. Winners for each competition will be selected by a panel of experts, ensuring a fair and professional evaluation process. Attractive prizes will be awarded to recognise their talent and encourage active participation in these vibrant activities.
