Minister reviews dev projects, tells officials to ensure proper solid waste management

With a view to expediting development works and ensure cleanliness across the city, Local Bodies Minister Dr Ravjot Singh held a meeting with officials of the municipal corporation (MC) and the district administration at the MC Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar here on Monday.

Cabinet Minister Dr Ravjot Singh reviewed the ongoing development works being taken up under different heads, including the projects, being taken up under the Smart City mission, Solid waste management, LED streetlights project, Animal Birth Control project, etc.

MLA Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu, MLA Ashok Prashar Pappi, MLA Rajinderpal Kaur Chhina, Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur, Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Prashar, Deputy Mayor Prince Johar, representative of MLA Madan Lal Bagga - councillor Aman Bagga, late MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi’s wife Dr Sukhchain Gogi Bassi, Joint Director of the Local bodies Department Jagdeep Sehgal, MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh, ADC (Rural Development) Amarjit Bains, Joint Commissioner Ankur Mahindroo, Joint Commissioner Abhishek Sharma among other officials were present in the meeting.

Cabinet Minister Dr Ravjot Singh directed the officials to involve the local MLAs and councillors and execute the projects to the residents’ benefit. Further directions were also issued to beautify the entry points to the city. Directions were also issued to ensure strict action against illegal constructions.

Later in the evening, Cabinet Minister Dr Ravjot Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewal held a meeting at 225 MLD sewer treatment plant (STP) wherein strict directions were issued to stop dumping of cow dung and industrial waste into the Buddha Dariya.

MLA Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, Mayor Inderjit Kaur, MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, ADC Amarjit Bains among other senior officials of the PPCB, PWSSB, Soil Conservation Department etc were present in the meeting.

The officials were directed to ensure the lifting of cow dung from dairy units and dump the same at the designated sites until bio-gas plants are established in Haibowal and Tajpur road dairy complexes. PEDA is working to establish the plants wherein cow dung would be used to generate bio-gas.

While the civic body is already lifting cow dung from dairy complexes and the same is being dumped at the designated sites, the authorities have been directed to expedite the process to hire a private contractor for lifting of cow dung from dairy units. Civic body officials stated that a tender has already been floated to hire the contractor.

The contractor working on the project to rejuvenate Buddha Dariya has also been directed to reconstruct the streets/roads in dairy complexes so that no problem is faced in lifting cow dung.

The civic body and PPCB officials were also directed to keep a regular check on dumping of untreated dyeing industry waste into sewer lines and take strict action against the violators.
