Miscreants attack woman, rob her of cash, gold at knifepoint
In a latest incident of robbery that occurred on Friday, a woman, Puja Dhir, was robbed of Rs 5,000 in cash, gold earrings and a gold ring by miscreants. They attacked the lone woman when she was returning home.
The incident occurred on the South City road when the woman, working with a real estate company, was returning home from work on her Honda Activa. She stopped her vehicle when another woman, who was standing in the middle of the road, asked for a lift from her. When she stopped the vehicle, four persons on two bikes came and asked to had over her valuables to them. When she resisted their move, she was attacked by the four men and the woman. The suspects took away her cash, gold earrings and a ring at knifepoint. The PAU police are investigating the matter.
It is not an isolated case in Ludhiana. Snatchers and robbers are targeting vulnerable victims across the city. During the recent visit of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal to Ludhiana, a resident had raised concern over rising incidents of loot in the city to which the CM had asked the Commissioner of Police (CP) to give a reply. The CP, Kuldip Chahal, had said the number of snatching incidents had come down but in days to come, these would be zero. Just after a few days of their visit, the robbers attacked a woman on Friday.
As per rough estimates, over 50 such incidents have occurred in the past three months in Ludhiana in which suspects not only looted victims but also injured many of them when they resisted their move. Though the police had been given an additional force of 140 personnel recently, there has been a panic among residents, who think twice to venture out alone in city areas. On daily basis, snatchers are arrested from different areas and weapons, knives and iron rods are seized from them. But there is no respite from loot incidents.
On March 20, when a vehicle driver, Vinod Kumar, was returning to his home, miscreants tried to loot his mobile phone, when he refused, he was attacked with an iron rod. The man had to be operated upon due to his injuries. In two such loot incidents in January, a person was attacked in the head while another person received seven stitches in his hand.
Two snatchers nabbed
Meanwhile, two snatchers were arrested by the Sahnewal police on Saturday. Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, and Dalvir Singh, alias Sonu, were nabbed by the police and a motorcycle, four mobile phones and an iron rod were recovered from them. The suspects were involved in several loot and snatching incidents in the past.
