The administration has launched a month-long campaign to create awareness on road safety.
Several social outfits and educational institutes have been roped in for sensitising the residents and promote safe-driving practices, especially during fog and at night.
Besides organising workshops, the police challaned 89 vehicle owners for violating traffic norms and collected a penalty worth Rs 21.30 lakh in January till date.
Malerkotla Deputy Commissioner Pallavi said SSP Gagan Ajit Singh and Regional Transport Officer Gurmit Bansal had organised workshops to sensitize all stakeholders on the matter.
“We have deployed police personnel to sensitise the residents about underage driving,” said Pallavi, adding that eyesight testing, dope test and physical fitness of drivers was also focus of the campaign.
