Ludhiana Central MLA Ashok Prashar Pappi inspected the ongoing work to cover the Dharampura nullah (from Shingar cinema road to the Gaughat cremation ground) and issued necessary directions for expediting the work.
The civic body has got the project designed by experts at IIT-Roorkee, and a 250-metre stretch of the nullah is being covered. Retaining walls and a concrete base for the nullah would also be constructed under the project, which is being taken up at a cost of around Rs 9.50 crore. Superintending Engineer Ranjit Singh, SDO Prabhjot and the contractor were also present during the inspection.
MLA Prashar stated that this project would not only give a cleaner look to the area, but would also help in streamlining the movement of traffic. He added that another project was being taken up, under which a floodgate would be established at the Buddha Dariya point near the cremation ground to stop water from accumulating in the Dharampura and nearby areas during monsoon.
MLA Prashar said that like Shivaji Nagar nullah, the Dharampura nullah would also be covered, and this would help in the further development of
the area.
