In Ludhiana’s West Circle alone, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has reported an increase in load and number of connections since the Voluntary Disclosure Scheme (VDS) was launched. A senior Powercom official said consumers were using more power than they’d declared to the PSPCL due to which erratic power supply and outages were common.
The Powercom has extended the deadline for the VDS for Non-Residential Supply (NRS/ Commercial) and Domestic Supply category consumers till August 22.
The official added that many consumers had come forward for extension of loads at subsidised rates. “The department gave consumers an opportunity to get their loads extended and many have got it done as there were no penalties,” the official said.
He said in the City West Division, as many as 273 new connections with a load of 657.1 kW and 56 271.17 kW NRS connections were claimed under the scheme. In the West Circle — City West Division, Estate Division, Model Town Division, Janta Nagar Division and Aggar Nagar Division — 1,541 new connections were availed under the VDS Scheme for domestic supply with the load increasing to 3,451 kW while under the NRS category, 213 new connections were issued with 682.66 kW load. — TNS
