Mundian Kalan, Amargarh to slug it out in Guru Gobind Singh Hockey championship final

The 9th Guru Gobind Singh Hockey Championship, organised by the Ludhiana Sports Welfare Association and currently underway at the Olympian Prithipal Singh Hockey Stadium, PAU Ludhiana, saw significant development on its second day.

In the girls’ category, Mundian Kalan Hockey Centre and Amargarh secured their spots in the final. In the boys’ U-17 category, Jarkhar Hockey Academy, Qila Raipur, Heran, and Ek Noor Academy, Tehing, confirmed their places in the semifinals.

In the boys’ category matches today, Jarkhar Hockey Academy defeated Malwa Hockey Academy 3-1, and Qila Raipur Hockey Centre beat Ghawaddi School 2-0 to advance to the semifinal. In the other group, Ek Noor Academy, Tehing, defeated Guru Tegh Bahadur Hockey Academy, Chacharari 4-1.

Baba Kirpal Das Academy, Heran, reached the semifinal despite losing their final league match. Chacharari defeated Heran 3-0 in the last league match, but Heran secured a spot in the final four based on goal average. In the girls’ category, Mundian Kalan Hockey Centre defeated DAV School 3-0.

President of the association Amrik Singh Minhas and secretary Jagroop Singh Jarkhar welcomed the guests on the occasion.

On the second day, Olympian Hardeep Singh Grewal, president of Ludhiana Hockey, was the chief guest. He was introduced to the teams and also shared valuable techniques and skills of hockey with the sub-junior children. Other special guests who were introduced to the various teams during today’s matches included Gurdip Singh Grewal, District Sports Officer, Ferozepur, Sukhmohinder Singh (retired IPS), Rachhpal Singh Nagi (former national hockey player, electricity board), Col Jugraj Singh Sidhu, Varunjit Singh (USA) and Jaspal Singh Takkar.

Chief organiser Jagroop Singh Jarkhar announced that the semifinals and final matches of the championship will be held tomorrow.
