Ludhiana, August 16
The Department of Apparel and Textile Science at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) observed the National Handloom Week from August 7 to 14. The celebration featured an exhibition showcasing a wide range of handloom saris, including Paithani, Baluchari, Irkal, Jamdani, Sambalpuri, Kalakshetra, Maheshwari and Pochampalli, along with ornamental hand-woven fabrics, carpets, rugs and shawls.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Kiran Bains, dean of the college, who commended the faculty and postgraduate students for their efforts in displaying the pieces crafted by skilled artisans and weavers. The event provided a platform to celebrate the creativity and hard work of India’s handloom community while highlighting the enduring legacy of the Swadeshi Movement’s principles of self-reliance. — TNS
