Ludhiana, July 15
The probe of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Ludhiana, into two prominent crimes reported in the recent past is going at a snail’s pace. Family members of both victims have demanded that investigation should be sped up and culprits should be put behind the bars.
Passengers’ security still a cause of concern
Despite the major incident of theft of a seven-month-old child, security arrangements at the city railway station are lacking. No frisking of passengers is being done at the main entrance. Suspicious persons keep roaming to target the passengers. Earlier also, a child was stolen from the railway station but fortunately he was recovered by the GRP within 24 hours.
Their kin also alleged that whenever they visit the railway police station to get an update about the ongoing probe, either the officers concerned are not available or they make hollow promises.
A 23-year-old Jammu-based youth, Tushar Thakur, an Army aspirant, was on the way to Ahmedabad from Jammu to appear in an interview after clearing the SSB exam on May 19 when he was pushed off the moving train by three miscreants. His only fault was he objected to smoking by three youths inside the train, following which arguments occurred and they threw the victim out of the moving train. Tushar’s lower limbs were paralysed due to the serious injuries. His spine also suffered a critical injury.
“I contacted the railway police several times to get updates regarding the ongoing probe and everytime the officer would say the investigation is on and they will inform once the culprits are identified. I request senior officials of the railway police to ensure speedy probe into the case so that the miscreants be identified,” Virander Singh, father of the youth said on Monday.
The other incident is related to the seven-month-old girl child who was stolen from the city railway station on the night of June 30. The police got a clue that a woman had committed the crime and even a CCTV footage has also been recovered by the police from the railway station which shows the suspect taking the child out of the station. Though Rs 1 lakh cash reward has also recently been announced by the GRP for providing any information about the woman, the police have failed to get any clue in the case.
Chandan Kumar, father of the missing girl, said they were having sleepless nights thinking about their daughter. The police had no clue about the child’s whereabouts and whether she was safe.
