NSS volunteers trained in digital literacy during special camps
Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, organised week-long special camps for more than 150 volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS). These camps were about learning to be digitally literate. They learnt the intricacies of optimal utilisation of digitalisation, besides developing the capacity to shun screens.
Dr Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman, Director Students’ Welfare, said the camps were aimed at raising awareness among students in digital literacy and subsequently to motivate them to inculcate the habit of using screens responsibly. Dr Ghuman said such camps aimed to develop competence for selfless service towards the community and nation among volunteers. The in-campus colleges of the veterinary university participated in the camps under the theme of ‘Youth for Digital Literacy’ as guided by the regional directorate of the NSS.
Dr Kuldeep Singh Kaka, Agriculture Officer, Fatehgarh Sahib, delivered a lecture on the role of NSS application, to be adopted by the volunteers, to strengthen digital literacy. He delineated on the thin line of difference between use and misuse of technology and emphasised on maintaining mental health by engaging in productive activities.
Programme Coordinator Nidhi Sharma said the NSS volunteers also cleaned the equipments, machinery and surroundings of the experimental dairy plant for two days to show their commitment towards a clean campus.
NSS college coordinators SS Hassan, Dr Narender Kumar and Dr Vishal Sharma reiterated that these camps were essential for volunteers in the present day context.
