Officials discuss road map to digitise services

Taking a step towards digitalisation and institutional strengthening, urban development and technology experts appointed under the World Bank and AIIB co-funded Punjab Municipal Services Improvement Project (PMSIP) conducted a meeting with Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Sandeep Rishi and other officials of the civic body at the MC’s Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar on Wednesday.

With focus on solid waste management and mobility, among other aspects concerning the city, the delegation discussed a proposed road map regarding the steps to be taken to improve the services through e-governance and digitalisation. They also visited the static compactor site in Block J in Sarabha Nagar to take stock of the situation at the ground-level.

Consultants Shashank Jayakumar and Navika Chaudhary discussed several proposals during the meeting, which was attended by MC Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh, Joint Commissioner Inderpal, health officer Vipal Malhotra, executive engineer Balwinder Singh, executive engineer Surinder Singh, superintendent Vivek Verma and DDF Naman Bhatia, among others.

They said an e-governance assessment workshop was held here in June. On the basis of which, a road map had been prepared by them for improving digitalisation and strengthening institutions, among other aspects.

They said the main objective of the road map was to enhance service delivery to citizens and improve urban e-governance.

Some of the interventions which were already underway under the PMSIP included establishing IT/GIS cells in the MC, digitisation of office records, procurement of new IT hardware and implementing an asset management system.

MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi said a number of initiatives had already been taken by the Ludhiana MC towards digitalisation and e-governance. This project would certainly help improve service delivery and the existing infrastructure, he said.
