State spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and state convenor of the ‘One Nation One Election’ (ONOE) proposal, SS Channy held a press conference on Sunday during which he said the BJP would start an awareness campaign regarding the proposal soon.

“A meeting was held in Delhi in which nearly 45 leaders from various political parties, retired judges, advocates, bureaucrats, and social activists took part. Nukkad nataks, seminars, and workshops will be organised throughout the country to make people aware of ONOE. People need to know the real information about this proposal, and debates and discussions will also be organised,” he said.

Elaborating about ONOE, Channy added that, “India’s democracy operates on multiple levels, each with its own election cycle. There are General Elections to choose parliament members, state elections to pick legislators, and rural and urban councils hold separate voting for local governance. By-elections fill vacancies caused by resignation, death, or disqualification of representatives. These elections happen every five years, but at different times.
