Over 500 students take part in track, field events

Over 500 students (boys and girls U-14, 17 and 19) are taking part in different track and field events during the two-day 69th Ludhiana District Schools Zonal-Level Athletics Meet being organised by the Punjab Education Department at Guru Nanak Stadium.

In the girls section (U-19), in shot put event, Rasmeet Kaur of the Rara Sahib zone came out triumphant. Mehakdeep Kaur of Samrala zone and Aishpreet Kaur of Sahnewal zone secured the second and third positions, respectively.

In high jump (boys U-17), Jaskaran Singh of Sahnewal zone emerged the winner, while the second position was bagged by Maninder Singh of Khanna zone. Manveer Singh of Jagraon zone and Manjot of Ludhiana-I zone secured the third and fourth places, respectively.

In 1,500m race for boys U-17, the first three positions were clinched by Preet Kumar of Samrala zone, Vaibhav Bhalla of PAU zone and Sukhbir Singh of Samrala zone, respectively and Faizal Iqbal of Ludhiana-I zone finished at fourth place.

In 100m sprint (boys U-17), Jaskaran Singh of Kila Raipur zone clinched the top spot, while Harman Singh of Raikot zone and Raj of Sahnewal zone finished at second and third postions, respectively.

In the boys U-17 category, in discus throw, Gurshaan Singh Gill of Rara Sahib zone proved his mettle by bagging the first position, followed by Mansahib Singh of Rara Sahib zone and Taranvir Singh of Samrala zone at second and third places, respectively.

In long jump event (boys U-19), Gautam (Samrala zone), Parveen (Sahnewal zone) and Inderjeet Singh (Khanna zone) secured the top three positions.

In the girls U-17 group, in 400m race, Akalroop Kaur of Rara Sahib romped home victorious. Amaanat Sidhu of Ludhiana-I zone and Khushi Tiyagi of Ludhiana-I zone finished as first and second runners-up, respectively.

In the girls (U-14) hurdles race, Gurleen Kaur of Raikot zone fetched the top position, while Prabhleen Kaur of Ludhiana-I zone and Liya Shaheena of PAU zone secured the second and third positions, respectively.

In high jump (girls U-14), top three positions were secured by Aariha Gaur of Ludhiana-I zone, Sonia Kaur of Raikot zone and Heena of Khanna zone, respectively.

Teja Singh Dhaliwal, general secretary, Punjab Basketball Association, Kuldeep Chugh, District Sports Officer and Dimple Madaan, District Education Officer (Secondary Education) gave away prizes to the winners.
