A suspicious bomb-like object, recovered by Doraha police late this evening, has created a stir in the town. Even after the spot of recovery was sealed, the bomb scare among residents failed to subside.

As soon as the police received information regarding a suspicious object lying in a garbage dump on the Boparai road, a team rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. The area was then completely sealed by the police as a precautionary measure.

Doraha SHO Rao Varinder Singh said acting on the information, the police reached the spot and found a material in the shape of a bomb from the garbage dump. “Sandbags have been placed all around the spot, and the area has been sealed. A team of the bomb squad has been called tomorrow to identify the suspicious object and security has been increased in the area. Meanwhile, an investigation is going on. It is not yet clear whether the object is a real bomb or someone has placed it for the sake of creating panic in the area. It may also be a part of some military equipment, being used by personnel while practicing along the periphery. The matter is under investigation and shall be clear only after the team arrives tomorrow,” he added.

Meanwhile, the news of the suspicious object being found on the Boparai road spread panic among residents to the extent that the ones residing in the vicinity were thinking of shifting to a safer spot for the time being, rueing the fact that the bomb squad team should have been called immediately to rule out the chances of any threat. “Now when the suspicious object has been recovered and it is still lying on the Boparai road, how can the police think that the residents can, in any case, sleep soundly? It is a big flaw on the part of the administration to let the object lie at that very spot. Though sealed, in case the suspicious object turns out to be a real bomb and explodes, who would be responsible for the damage?” expressed a concerned resident.
