Harchand Singh Barsat, chairman of Punjab Mandi Board, said the university was taking important steps for the profession of animal husbandry. He urged farmers to create new niches in animal husbandry while trying to increase crop yield. Dr Sukhpal Singh, chairman of the Punjab State Farmers and Farmer Workers Commission, said scientific methods must be inculcated for agricultural diversification. Vice-Chancellor Jatinder Pal Singh Gill said that through breed improvement farmers could get more produce from fewer animals. This would not only reduce pressure on the environment but could also save farmers from many expenses.
