Pashu Palan Mela ends with focus on breed improvement for high yield
The two-day Pashu Palan Mela at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) concluded on Saturday leaving behind the message of breed improvement for better yield in the minds of farmers and visitors. The mela attracted a huge gathering.
Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, appreciating the university exhibition, said the quality products made by the university were a very good initiative. He motivated farmers to understand the importance of tests for the health of animals. He also emphasised the need to develop the dairy sector further. He encouraged farmers to associate with the university as much as possible.
Harchand Singh Barsat, chairman of Punjab Mandi Board, said the university was taking important steps for the profession of animal husbandry. He urged farmers to create new niches in animal husbandry while trying to increase crop yield. Dr Sukhpal Singh, chairman of the Punjab State Farmers and Farmer Workers Commission, said scientific methods must be inculcated for agricultural diversification. He said statistics suggested that farmers associated with the university got more benefits than other farmers.
Vice-Chancellor Jatinder Pal Singh Gill said that through breed improvement farmers could get more produce from fewer animals. This would not only reduce pressure on the environment but could also save farmers from many expenses. He urged livestock farmers to come avail themselves of services at the university whenever they got time to and meet experts.
