PAU hosts agri-processing training session

The Department of Processing and Food Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a one-day training on "Entrepreneurship Development in Agro Processing for Better Livelihood" under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) and the All India Coordinated Research Project on Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (AICRP on PHET).

Around 20 participants attended the training session, which combined theoretical tutorials and practical exposure to agro-processing technologies developed at the department.

The programme was inaugurated by MS Alam, Principal Scientist and Scheme in-charge of AICRP on PHET, who highlighted the potential of agro-processing in minimizing post-harvest losses, creating rural employment, promoting agricultural diversification, and improving stakeholders'' economic and social well-being. Participants were encouraged to explore entrepreneurial opportunities such as honey processing using the department's resources.

The training featured expert-led sessions covering a wide range of topics. Surekha Bhatia provided insights on high-quality jaggery production, while Maninder Kaur showcased small-scale post-harvest machinery.
