Ludhiana, August 12
The Department of Human Development and Family Studies in collaboration with Department of Food and Nutrition, College of Community Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a two-day training programme on ‘preservation of fruits’ at Leehan village , Sidhwan Bet, Ludhiana. As many as 45 farm women participated in the training programme which was held under the aegis of All India Coordinated Research Project on Women in Agriculture (AICRP-WIA).
Introducing the topic, Dr Prachi Bisht, scientist, Department of Human Development and Family Studies, talked about the benefits of preserving fruits to gain the maximum health benefits beyond their seasonal availability. She also stressed upon the increase in entrepreneurial opportunities by acquiring the skill and reception of financial gain associated with its commercialisation.
Dr Shikha Mahajan, Assistant Professor, Department of Food and Nutrition, demonstrated the preparation of various fruit preservation recipes such as lemon squash, mango squash, apple jam and plum jam. — TNS
