The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked a pact with Noida-based Kain Agrotech Innovation LLP for the commercialisation of “Hybrid Hydroponics Technology with Improved Water and Nutrient Perforation and Re-circulation System”. Dr GS Mangat, Additional Director Research (Agriculture), PAU, and Shivank Raj Bhati signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

Mahesh Kumar, Additional Director of Research (Agricultural Engineer); Dr Khushdeep Dharni, Associate Director, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, PAU; and Vijit Bhatara were also present on the occasion.

The pioneering technology, coined as the first indigenous solution to soilless farming, has been developed and patented by Dr VP Sethi, head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, PAU. The invention stemmed from the amalgamation of two distinct soilless technologies, effectively harnessing their combined advantages.

Highlighting the key benefits of the technology, Dr Sethi revealed that the technology led to the efficient utilisation of water and nutrients, mitigating wastage through leaching, runoff or evaporation, he said. This aspect was crucial in light of the declining water table and rising soil toxicity, he added.
