Tribune News Service Ludhiana, November 15 Ten international delegates participating in the International Conference on “Transforming Agrifood Systems in the Face of Climate Changes and Energy Transitions” held an exclusive meeting with Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). This separate interaction focused on exploring PAU’s innovative research, institutional collaborations and its role in addressing critical agricultural challenges. During the discussion, Dr Gosal briefed the visitors on PAU’s ongoing research strides in protection and processing technologies and unique approaches to technology transfer. He outlined pressing agricultural issues, such as climate change, groundwater depletion and soil health decline that PAU is tackling through environmentally responsible technologies. Dr Gosal also emphasised PAU’s openness to international collaboration in cutting-edge areas like climate-resilient crops, genome editing, precision farming, conservation agriculture, AI, and IoT. The Directorate of Extension Education of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has invited applications from state farmers for the ‘Innovative Farmer Awards-2025’.

The awards aim to honour Punjab farmers for their contributions towards the agricultural development of the state and providing food security to the nation. The innovative farmers will be honoured during the PAU Kisan Mela in March 2025 for excelling in agriculture, horticulture and allied enterprises, the directorate said.

Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, said the Chief Minister Award in Agriculture, carrying a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a plaque and citation, will be awarded to the self-cultivating farmer of field crops.

The Chief Minister Award in Horticulture would be bestowed upon the self-cultivating farmer of horticultural crops, he added.

Three CRI Pumps Award, each carrying a cash prize of Rs 10,000 with a plaque and citation, would be presented to self-cultivating farmers for adopting improved water management technologies, farm mechanisation and organic farming, respectively, he added.

Besides, Sardarni Parkash Kaur Sra Memorial Award, carrying a cash prize of Rs 5,000, a plaque and citation, would be awarded to the self-cultivating progressive farmer in agriculture, horticulture, floriculture and allied agriculture enterprises, he said.

Bhullar said the Jathedar Guraditta Singh Mahal Award would be awarded at Regional Research Station in Bathinda. The award, carrying a prize of Rs 10,000 along with a plaque and citation, would be given to a self-cultivating innovative farmer in the field of horticulture. He noted that a minimum of 70 per cent area should be under horticulture crops to receive this award.

Dr GPS Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education, further said that the application forms for the awards could be obtained from associate, deputy directors (training) of Krishi Vigyan Kendras, directors of regional stations, district extension specialists (senior-most), farm advisory service centres, chief agriculture officers, deputy directors of horticulture in different districts of the state and Directorate of Extension Education, PAU.

For each award, a separate application has to be submitted in the office of the PAU Director of Extension Education till December 31.
