PAU trains farmers in bird conservation
A training camp on ‘Bird Conservation and Vertebrate Pest Management’ was organised by the Department of Zoology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), at Khosa Pandoo village in Moga district.
In the camp, Dr Tejdeep Kaur Kler, principal ornithologist, and head, Department of Zoology, PAU, inspired farmers through various measures to protect bird species and their habitats in ecosystem.
In the bird conservation action, she started a tree plantation drive on community basis with the support of panchayat members and planted a sapling to promote environmental awareness to enhance bird diversity in the ecosystem.
She also emphasised the importance of trees and their role in a healthy environment, fostering a sense of environmental responsibility.
Dr Rajwinder Singh, zoologist, delivered a lecture on various management tactics to combat vertebrate pests in agricultural crops to increase farm output.
Dr Manoj Kumar, senior ornithologist, interacted with the farmers to solve their problems and distributed literature regarding the management of vertebrate pests.
Navdeep Kumar, Agricultural Field Officer, Punjab Agricultural University, also advised the farmers to reduce their cost of cultivation and use recommended package of practices for different crops, recommended by the university to increase their farm income.
