Pay property tax, sewer charges by March 31 to avoid penalty
With March 31 the last day to pay property tax and water-sewer user charges without penalty, residents are left with just 12 days to pay the pending tax for the current financial year without facing any penalty.
Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal also conducted a meeting with the officials concerned and directed them to expedite the recovery of pending tax from residents. The officials have also been directed to act strict against defaulters in case they fail to submit the pending tax with the authorities.
Mayor Inderjit Kaur and the MC Commissioner have also directed officials to spread awareness among the residents through bulk messages or any other medium so that residents could pay their taxes without any penalty.
The civic body officials said the residents would have to pay a 20 per cent penalty and 18 per cent annual interest on delayed payment, if they fail to pay the tax by March 31.
The Mayor and MC Commissioner appealed to the residents to pay taxes on time to avoid penalty. They said funds collected in the form of taxes was used for taking up development works in the city and providing basic amenities to the residents.
For facilitating the residents in submitting the taxes without penalty, the civic body has decided to keep zonal suvidha kendras open on Saturdays and Sundays too.
The kendras will remain open on March 22 (Saturday), March 29 (Saturday), March 30 (Sunday). These will be open on March 31 also (a government holiday due to Eid-ul-Fitr) during working hours.
