The Sidhwan Bet police claimed to have nabbed a smuggler and recovered 400 gm of heroin, Rs 54,200 drug money and a motorcycle from the suspect.
He was identified as Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, a resident of Sidhwan Bet.
Investigating officer ASI Sukhdev Singh said on Friday, he, along with a police team, was
present at the bridge canal in Sidhwan Bet for patrolling and checking suspicious persons. In the evening, he received a tip-off that Gurpreet, who used to sell heroin, was coming towards the Sidhwan Bet area from the Kishanpura side on his Splendor motorcycle (PB 25 J 7453) to deliver the drug to his clients.
The ASI said afterwards, the police laid a naka near a cold storage at Abupura village where the motorcyclist was stopped for checking and the heroin was seized from him. Following which, a case under the NDPS Act was registered against the suspect. Two drug cases were already registered against him in the past.
Now, his police remand would be sought from court for further probe, he added.
