Pedestrian walkway along Lakkar Bridge flyover presents picture of neglect

On one hand the MC is carrying out a comprehensive cleanliness drive but on the other, the pedestrian walkway along the Lakkar Bridge flyover presents a picture of neglect. With no space left for pedestrians to walk, the path is full of garbage, filth and empty bottles of liquor.

Garbage can be seen strewn on the walkway and at some points the railing is also hanging loose. This walkway is a link for those who want to travel by foot from old court traffic lights to the railway station. Commuters find it difficult to walk on this path with so much garbage littered along the way.

Krishan, who works at a shop at Bhadaur House, said his house was located near the old court road so he preferred to go to his workplace using the walkway.

“With garbage littered all around, it becomes very difficult to walk. Walking on the flyover is risky due to many curves on the bridge which can result in an accident,” he said. Another city resident, who regularly uses the walkway said the authorities should pay attention to this part of the city. “Despite being an old area, it remains a major business hub. Many people pass through this overbridge. It seems some unscrupulous elements also carry out anti-social activities as I often see empty liquor bottles here,” he added.
