Police launch campaign to curb drinking in public, vehicles, near vends

The Ludhiana police have launched a special campaign to curb the practice of drinking in open spaces — especially inside vehicles and around liquor vends.

The campaign was led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police–1 Ludhiana, Sameer Verma, with support from, ACP Central Anil Bhanot, ACP North Kikkar Singh, SHO Jodhewal and officers from police stations falling under Zone-1.

During the drive, police teams carried out strict checking at locations where people were commonly seen consuming alcohol in cars or in open. Individuals involved in such activities were detained, and action was taken against them as per the law.

Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma had appealed to citizens to avoid such illegal behavior, emphasising that drinking in open areas or inside vehicles not only violated the law but also posed a threat to public safety. He stressed that the campaign was launched to maintain law and order in the city and to ensure the well-being of its residents.

It is pertinent to mention here that booze lovers consuming alcohol outside the liquor shops is a common sight in city. Many a times people can be seen lying outside liquor shops in an inebriated state. The police need to take strict action in this regard as this practice has been going on for years now. Many liquor shop also continue to selling after the stipulated closing time.
