Police launch crackdown on drug peddlers, 12 rounded up

Assistant Commissioner of Police Harjinder Singh Gil has said that a crackdown has been launched against drug peddlers and anti-social elements in villages falling under Dehlon block of Ludhiana district.

About 12 persons suspected to be involved in illegal trade of drug peddling were rounded up during a search operation conducted at 12 rural localities early on Friday. The police were yet to declare the outcome of the operation in terms of seizure of contraband.

“Having received orders from Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Chahal, we constituted separate teams, which had female cops too, and conducted intensive search on the premises suspected to be hideouts of drug peddlers,” said Harjinder Singh Gill ascertaining that 12 persons were rounded up for extracting information about illegal activities of drug peddlers in the region.

Paddi, Nangal, Jarkhar, Khanpur, Khera, Gopalpur, Mukandpur, Lehra, Gopalpur and Dagora villages were among localities where raids were conducted on the basis of inputs received earlier from reliable sources.

Gill said the crackdown would continue at remaining localities falling under his jurisdiction in the following days and information extracted from detained persons would be used to ascertain the links of drug peddlers arrested in the past.
