The Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a poster-making competition on the theme ‘My Vote My Duty’ to celebrate National Voter’s Day. About 20 students participated in the competition. National Voters Day (NVD), celebrated annually on January 25, honours the foundation of the Election Commission of India and aims to emphasise the importance of voting in a democracy. Instituted in 2011, this day encourages citizens, especially youth, to participate in the electoral process.
Prof Manmeet Kaur emphasised the importance of voting as a constitutional right and its crucial role in shaping the nation’s future. She highlighted that every vote contributed to the democratic process, shaping policies and decisions that affected the lives of citizens. She also stressed that the active participation of citizens, especially the youth, was essential for fostering the spirit of democracy.
The best posters were recognised with PAU souvenirs as awards.
