PSEB Class 12 results better than Class 10, teachers say various campaigns hit studies
The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has recently declared results for the Board examinations in which Class 12 students from government schools have performed well while Class 10 students of government schools did not do that well.
In the merit list released by the Board, not even one student from government schools in Ludhiana district could figure among the top 10. When asked, teachers blamed the faulty method of teaching because of which both teachers and the students deviated from actual studies.
Talking to The Tribune, president of Democratic Teachers’ Front, Daljit Samrala said that teachers knew that this would happen. He said that the teachers were kept busy in promoting campaigns like Mission Samrath and competency enhancement programme. “These kinds of initiatives kept both the students and teachers busy without any favourable outcome. We are doing all this work without any direction. In all this, the regular studies of students suffer and they fail to perform well in actual studies,” said Samrala.
At the same time, another teacher maintained that in Class 12, there are no such issues and the focus is on studies only. The teachers and the students concentrate on the main subjects and perform well because their attention is not diverted to other campaigns. This has been witnessed in the results of Class 12, where government school students have performed at par with their private counterparts. He also added that teachers are sent on election duties for long, which further aggravates the situation.
District Education Officer Dimple Madan said that now more focus would be given to students in Class 10. “The department had focused well on Class 12 students by taking extra classes, holding camps etc. We will focus on Class 10 students in a similar manner from this year,” said the DEO.
