PSPCL carries out drive to curb power theft

To curb power thievery, the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) recently carried out mass inspection of the power connections in all the major circles of Ludhiana. As many as 4,036 connections were checked by teams of the department. Most of the theft cases were found in the East circle.

According to available information, 4,036 connections were checked of which 173 cases of theft were found. Of the total 173 cases of theft, 86 cases were found in Ludhiana East circle. The quantum of theft in Ludhiana East amounted to Rs 41.50 lakh while the total theft recorded in Ludhiana was of Rs 86.76 lakh.

A total of 798 connections were checked in Ludhiana East — 215 at Focal Point, 166 at City Central CMC and 417 at Sunder Nagar. Of these, 13 theft cases were found at Focal Point, 18 at City Central CMC and 55 at Sunder Nagar.

In the Western Circle, 1,030 connections were checked and 47 cases of power theft were found. Totla loss incurred here amounted to Rs 23.82 lakh.

In the suburban areas including Lalton Kalan, Adda Dakha, Jagraon, Raikot and Ahmedgarh, 704 connections were checked of which 22 theft cases were reported. The quantum of theft here stood at Rs 10.09 lakh.

In Khanna circle, 1,504 connections were checked and 18 cases of theft were found. Loss incurred here amounted to Rs 11.35 lakh.

A PSPCL official said such drives were carried out across the state as many cases of theft were being reported.
