Punjab dyers seek support from MP Government amid shutdown fears
Members of the Punjab Dyers Association have approached the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior officials, seeking assurances on whether all necessary facilities would be provided to the dyeing industry in their state. The appeal follows growing difficulties for dyeing units in Punjab, as the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered the closure of the three Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in Ludhiana.
The Punjab Dyers Association submitted a memorandum to a high-level delegation from Madhya Pradesh, which visited Ludhiana under the direction of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav.
Boby Jindal of the Dyers Association said a delegation met Chandra Muli Shukla, IAS, Managing Director of MP Industrial Development Corporation Limited, Bhopal, today and handed over the memorandum. “Since things are getting difficult here, the dyeing association has requested the MP government to provide us with a policy so that we may shift our industry to MP. If the state government shuts the three CETPs, it would not be possible for dyeing units to operate here,” said Jindal.
Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav held detailed discussions with Ludhiana industrialists, including Rajinder Gupta of Trident Group and S.P. Oswal of Vardhman Group. He also engaged in deliberations with representatives from various industrial organisations, including Upkar Singh of CICU and Gurmit Singh Kular of FICO, among others.
One industrialist, who wished to remain anonymous, remarked that industry no longer seemed to be a priority for the state government. “The visit of the MP Chief Minister to Punjab was organised to interact with the industry here and showcase the benefits and facilities being offered in MP, should they wish to shift base or expand operations.”
“Though it is too early to comment on the future, if the MP government offers good packages—such as subsidised land, cheap power, easy labour, and better infrastructure—then we will definitely consider it,” the industrialist added.
Trident Group chairman Rajinder Gupta stated that over the past 10 years, the group had received substantial support from the MP government, which enabled Trident to export to more than 100 countries. “In the next three years, Trident will complete investment worth Rs 5 lakh crore in MP. Besides, the group will also start an institute near Ujjain. Like Punjab, industry will enjoy ample exposure in MP,” he said.
