Weather played spoilsport in the run-up to the Independence Day functions scheduled to be held at various locations in the region. Those preparing for subdivision and district level celebrations were the worst affected.

While some organisers were seen planning for partial shifting of activities from outdoor to indoor, others had to either cancel or scale-down their celebrations to just hoisting of the Tricolour at their respective premises. Most educational institutes decided to make alternative arrangements in their auditoriums.

As subdivision level Independence Day functions are set to be organised at the newly constructed administrative blocks at Ahmedgarh and Amargarh, organisers have started making alternative arrangements for accommodating guests in meeting halls or corridors.

Preparations for the district-level function were more severely affected as these were being undertaken at Dr Zakir Hussain Stadium.

Municipal Council President Vikas Krishan Sharma said he had asked officials to modify the itinerary of the function that was scheduled to be held at the council’s compound on Friday. Officials were seen working extra hard to drain out water from venues.
