Solid waste management has become an uphill task for the newly constituted Municipal Council of Mullanpur Dakha, following the cleaning of a plot owned by the civic body that was previously used as a garbage dump.

While the Municipal Council authorities have sought the intervention of senior officials from the Ludhiana administration and the Local Bodies Department, residents of Jangpur village are opposing the restoration of the plot for dumping garbage.

Residents of Mullanpur, supported by office-bearers and activists from various social organisations, have urged higher authorities, including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Local Bodies Minister Dr Ravjot Singh, to take necessary action to ensure a hygienic environment and allow residents to live with dignity.

Executive Officer Charanjit Singh supported the residents’ concerns and confirmed that the issue had been raised with higher authorities for an immediate solution.
