Ludhiana, July 9
The CIA wing of the Ludhiana police has arrested panchayat officer Sandeep Singh Kahlon, nephew of SAD leader Nirmal Singh Kahlon, for his alleged role in the killing of singer Sidhu Moosewala.
He had been hiding at a relative’s place here.
Sandeep had been on the run after his name cropped up in the singer’s murder case. He has links with gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, the police have said.
On June 19, ten days before Moosewala’s killing, Sandeep had sent Satbir (horse trader who allegedly supplied weapons to the shooters), Mani and Tufaan to Bathinda to get weapons for the murder.
A few days after the killing, Sandeep called up Satbir and said Moosewala had been murdered by their gang members and now he should stay alert. Sandeep gave Satbir a pistol for his safety and assured him that he was in the process of arranging fake passports for him, Mani and Tufaan so that they could flee abroad.
Beant Juneja, CIA inspector, said that after the horse trader’s arrest, Sandeep was on the run. “For a few days, Sandeep stayed in the motor room of his friend in Amritsar. Later, he stayed at a mechanic shop of his friend in Amritsar,” he said.
For the past few days, accused had been hiding at his relative’s house in Singhpura here.
“Sandeep was produced in court, which remanded him in three-day police custody,” said Varinder Singh Brar, DCP (Investigations).
“Sandeep changed his look to evade arrest. He used to sport a turban, but the day he went into hiding, he stopped wearing one,” he added.
