Sampark programme launched in Khanna to combat drug menace

In a resolute step towards making Punjab drug-free, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Khanna, Jyoti Yadav Bains, launched the Sampark programme of Punjab Police in Khanna today under the directions of DGP Gaurav Yadav, ADGP Naunihal Singh and DIG Nilambari Vijay Jagdale, Ludhiana Range. This initiative aims to strengthen community outreach and curb the menace of drugs across the region.

As part of the programme, Khanna police led by the SSP conducted approximately 45 interactive meetings with village defence committees, sarpanches, villagers and other key stakeholders, covering around 60 villages and engaging over 2,500-3,000 people. The meetings focussed on raising awareness about the Punjab Government’s mission, ‘Yudh Nashyan Virudh’ (war against drugs), and encouraging people to play an active role in eradicating the drug problem by sharing information about drug peddlers and addicts.

During these interactions, The SSP emphasised the Punjab Police’s unwavering commitment to dismantling drug networks and rehabilitating those affected by addiction. The villagers were motivated to collaborate with law enforcement agencies and report suspicious activities to aid the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.

He further said the local community expressed their appreciation for the Punjab

government, particularly Punjab Police, for their recent intensified efforts and successful operations against drug peddlers over the past few days. The villagers

lauded the proactive approach and visible results of these initiatives.

In a bid to address the root causes of drug addiction and prevent the youth from falling prey to this menace, suggestions were also sought from the villagers. Valuable inputs were received on promoting sports and education as effective tools for the rehabilitation of drug addicts and as preventive measures to steer youngsters away from drugs.

The SSP added, “We are committed to not only cracking down on drug peddlers, but also ensuring rehabilitation and prevention through community-driven efforts. The Punjab Police remains steadfast in its mission to create a drug-free state and urges people to join hands in this collective fight against drugs”.

Commissioner reaches out to villagers

The Police Commissionarate, Ludhiana, today carried out a series of meetings with villagers under the Sampark programme here on Sunday. Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, Kuldeep Singh Chahal himself addressed all meetings to eradicate the menace of drugs from society. These meetings were conducted in Ladhowal area in which sarpanches and other villagers in large numbers took part.

Chahal stated that the villagers appreciated the campaign against drugs by the Ludhiana police. The villagers assured him that if any person was found selling drugs in the village, information in this regard would be given to the police for verifying the information and taking immediate action against the smugglers.

He has also issued directions to the heads of all police stations to monitor the drug traffickers in the villages and make efforts to eradicate the drug menace by nabbing the smugglers. He also assured the villagers that the police in coordination with the Civil Department would help rehabilitate the drug addicts.
