Saras Mela concludes in Ludhiana on positive note, exhibitors satisfied with good sales

The Saras Mela, where about 500 exhibitors from different states participated to showcase their products and which started at the PAU grounds on October 3, came to an end today with most of the exhibitors expressing satisfaction over the sales. They were also happy over the response given to them by residents of Ludhiana and nearby areas like Doraha, Sahnewal, Mullanpur Dakha, Jagraon, etc.

Even on the last day today, a good number of visitors visited the PAU grounds to buy the products which they had missed out buying earlier. Navdha Sharma, a young college student, said that she wanted to have a rug for her room, but during the initial days of festival, the exhibitors quoted high prices, which she got today at almost 40 per cent discount. “I am so happy that I got the things of my interest today at much lesser prices,” she added.

The exhibitors also said that since they were winding up the leftover stocks, they wanted to sell the products even if it meant giving good discounts. “The decoration items, sold earlier for Rs 250 each, were sold today for Rs 150 each. We want to sell as much products as we can,” said an exhibitor from Rajasthan, selling small wooden puppets.

One of the potters from Uttar Pradesh said that he had got products like bowls, plates, saucer pans and trays and these were sold like hot cakes. “I am happy that the 10-12 days went well. Though there were rains for three-four days, but since the district administration had extended the festival for two more days, we were able to make up for our losses,” said exhibitor Satish.

The administration had also arranged for cultural items during the festival and Satinder Sartaj, a renowned singer, entertained the audience during the festival.

Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain said that overall the festival went well and the exhibitors as well as the self-help groups from rural areas were happy that their sales went well and they also got further queries and orders. “The administration is also thankful to the major sponsors, exhibitors, artistes, officials, staff for making the festival memorable,” said Jain.
