Hosts Satish Chander Dhawan (SCD) Government College, Ludhiana, registered an emphatic win by 164 runs against GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar, in the opening match of the Panjab University Inter-College Cricket Tournament (Division-A) being played here today.
Batting first, SCD Government College made a decent score of 209 runs after losing just one wicket in 20 overs. The highlight of their innings was a powerful batting display by Jaish Jain and Tikshan Tangri, who made 103 and 79 runs, respectively.
The team of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar, wilted under the pressure of a big score as their reply culminated in ten overs with the scoreboard reading 45 all out. For the winning side, Chintan Randev was the pick of bowlers who captured five wickets after conceding only 12 runs.
The second match was slated between Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management, Ludhiana, and Kamla Lohtia Sanatan Dharam College, Ludhiana; however, the latter failed to turn up, and the former were declared winners.
Earlier, the principal of SCD Government College inaugurated the tournament. Prof Kulwant Singh, Head of the Physical Education Department, along with Prof Amarpreet Kaur, cricket in-charge Prof Satnam Singh, and Prof Paramjeet, were present on this occasion.
