Sukhdev Singh Walia and Gurmatpal Singh office bearers of the School Management Committee chaired the inaugural and concluding sessions respectively while former MLA Jasvir Singh Khangura was the chief guest during the function. Convener of the event Principal Daljit Kaur said an elaborate cultural programme was held on occasion of Annual Day function of the school. Around 300 students participated in items presented on the occasion. The audience including newly elected sarpanches, panches and parents of wards appreciated the efforts of the organisers to highlight social evils through plays, skits, choreographies and folk songs on the occasion. Environmental pollution, degradation of soil and water resources, reckless driving and violence were among themes of the items presented by the students. In his keynote address, Khangura called upon residents of the rural localities of the area to focus attention on education of their wards, so that they (students) can compete with their counterparts from urban habitations.
Motivational lecture
Continuing its series of lectures of experts, a motivational lecture was organised by Nankana Sahib Public School Gill Park. This time the Sikh preacher Dr. Sarbjit Singh Renuka addressed the teachers and staff of the school and gave many tips to teachers about effective teaching and learning process. Dr Sarbjit Singh who has about two dozen books on Sikhism and spirituality to his kitty explained with the help of Gurubani couplets as why it is necessary to provide an independent atmosphere to students so that they may be inquisitive learners. The motivational speaker who has also written a biography “Vadde Nishane vaddiyan praptiyan” (Life glimpses of Dr Inderjeet Singh) said: “ A research conducted by a University of Columbia found that beliefs of a teacher in students can do wonders. He said that teachers should motivate students.
