School notes: Judokas brought laurels

Ludhiana: The judokas of HVM Convent Senior Secondary School, Karamsar Colony, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the school by securing top positions in different weight categories in the district-level school games held at Guru Nanak Stadium. In the girls U-19 (40kg category) Ridhima secured a gold, Parthavi obtained a silver in (36kg category), while Lavisha bagged the bronze in girls U-14 (24kg category). In the boys U-17 (90kg category) Sukhmanpreet Singh won the gold, Amritpal Singh attained the silver in U-19 (55kg category), while Havish and Mukund Tiwari bagged bronze in U-14 50kg and 25kg categories, respectively. Ridhima and Sukhmanpreet Singh were selected for the state-level judo championship for the 40kg and 90 kg category. School president DP Sharma, chairman Dilbag Singh and other distinguished members of the management congratulated the students on the achievement.

Nankana Sahib Public School

Arshpreet Kaur, a Class XI student brought laurels to Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Park, by winning the 68th district-level chess tournament organised by the Punjab School Education Department. The tournament was held at IPS School, Churpur, Ludhiana. Arshpreet excelled in the U-19 category by winning all the matches and securing a spot in the state-level competition. School principal Harmeet Kaur Waraich, congratulated Arshpreet and her coach, acknowledging their hard work.

DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road

The spirited basketball players of DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana, once again brought a treasure chest of gold medals to the school by winning the Punjab School District Basketball Tournament held at Guru Nanak Stadium on August 25. The team represented Ludhiana Zone-1 and bagged the gold in U-14 (boys), U-19 (boys) and U-17 (girls). The players grabbed abundant appreciation and cheer for exhibiting exceptional stamina. They will now prepare to represent Punjab at the state-level.

Guru Nanak Int’l Public School

The pre-primary wing of Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town, organised an inter-section quiz contest under the series ‘Chote Ustad’ for the students of Class I on August 28. More than 100 students took part in five rounds, including rapid fire, complete the tagline, mental maths, complete the pattern and listen and memorise the words. Principal Gurmant Kaur Gill appreciated the efforts of the students and the teachers, and said such activities nurtured a quest for knowledge in students and helped them open up their minds to the world. The principal distributed certificates to the winning teams.
