Second randomisation of polling staff held

The second randomisation to deploy polling staff for the Ludhiana West byelection in the presence of General Observer Rajeev Kumar and District Election Officer (DEO Himanshu Jain was held here on Monday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Shikha Bhagat, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer for Ludhiana West Rupinder Pal Singh, DIO NIC Neeraj Garg were among others present.

Using the NextGen DISE software, the randomisation was held for deployment of 936 officials (234 Presiding Officers (PROs), 234 Assistant Presiding Officers (APROs), and 468 Polling Officers — from Centre and state governments, banks and public sector undertakings in 234 polling parties. Duty orders for the 936 officials were generated post-randomisation and will be delivered through their respective Heads of Departments (HODs). They have to attend the second rehearsal on June 12 at the Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana. The polling for the Ludhiana West byelection will be held on June 19 from 7 am to 6 pm and the results will be announced on June 23. A total of 194 polling booths, including two auxiliary polling booths, would be set up for the poll.

The first inspection of accounts of 14 candidates contesting the byelection was held under the supervision of Expenditure Observer Indana Ashok Kumar, IRS, on Monday.

ADC (Rural Development) Amarjit Bains and members of the expenditure monitoring committee were also present.

Two candidates Jatinder Kumar Sharma from the National Lok Seva Party and Independent Gurdeep Singh Kahlon were absent during the first inspection.

However, the expenditure observer had cross-checked shadow registers of the remaining 12 contesting candidates with their registers at Bachat Bhawan, District Administrative Complex, from 10 am to 5 pm.

The second and third inspection of the shadow registers with the registers maintained by 14 contesting candidates will be held on June 13 and 17 at Bachat Bhawan.
