The Daba police claimed to have nabbed the second suspect in a brutal murder of a man who was beaten to death by two suspects. One of them, Rinku Sharma, was arrested by the police on Monday while the other suspect, Amit Kumar of New Sundar Nagar, was also nabbed late on Monday night.

All of them, who were friends, were consuming liquor together when arguments started between them and the victim, Pradeep Tiwari, was attacked by the two suspects, which caused his death.

The complainant, the deceased’s father, Sharda Prasad, a resident of New Mahadev Nagar, told the police that on January 27 evening, his son Pradeep, who was 32, had gone to market to eat something on his motorcycle. When he did not return, they reached the main road in Gyanchand Nagar. While searching, Pradeep was found lying against the wall. He had suffered some serious internal injuries and he was thrown on the road by the suspects in a critical state.

He said before dying, his son told him that Rinku and Amit took him to Rinku’s house where they thrashed him badly. Later, they took him on the motorcycle and threw him outside Shiva Nursery (Bapu Market) and fled the scene. His son was taken to the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, where doctors declared him dead.

During the preliminary questioning, Rinku and Amit admitted that Pradeep had indulged in a spat with them over some old issue, following which they both brutally beaten him up. After Pradeep suffered serious internal injuries, they decided to dump him on the road as they thought if they take him to a hospital, the victim might reveal their names to the police.

Pradeep is survived by his wife and a two-year-old daughter.

ACP, Industrial Area B, Satwinder Singh, said the victim and the two suspects arrested by the police were good friends. On Sunday, they were consuming liquor when arguments started between them. In no time, arguments took a ghastly turn when the victim was attacked by the duo.
