Several miscreants barged into a hospital at Jagraon and thrashed doctors two days ago. Acting on a complaint of the victims, a case was registered against the suspects on Friday.

A case under Section 333 (house trespass with the intent to cause harm, assault, or wrongful restraint), 115-2 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt to another person), 351-2 (criminal intimidation), 191-3 (punishment for rioting with a deadly weapon or anything that could cause death), 190 (is guilty of any crime committed by another member of the group) and Section 4 of The Punjab Protection of Medical Care Service Institutions and Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property Act was registered against the suspects identified as Jagdev Singh, alias Gugni, and Jasvir Singh, alias Jassi, both residents of Bansal, Jagraon, and five unidentified persons.

The complainant, Kishan Singh, owner of Kishan Hospital, Lajpat Rai Road, Jagraon, told the police that when he and his staff were checking patients inside his hospital, the suspects barged into the hospital and started arguments over extending poor treatment to one patient.

“A woman was admitted to the hospital due to some health issue and she was being given required treatment. However, the suspects after barging into the hospital started misbehaving with the hospital staff and blamed them for not giving proper treatment to the woman. After I got to know about the matter, I, along with my son, reached the hospital, after which, the assailants also attacked us. The entire incident was recorded in CCTV cameras and the footage was given to the police,” he said.

On Saturday, the ambulance union came in support of the doctors and organised a protest march.

Its member Lucky said two days passed since the assailants had barged into the hospital and beaten up the doctors but the police failed to arrest the suspects.

Though a case was registered against the assailants on Friday, the police adopted a dilly-dallying attitude in nabbing them. The union would intensify agitation if the accused were not arrested in a few days, he said.
