The work of cleaning sewer lines is underway after water receded from the streets of ward 79 in Ludhiana. Water had entered the streets due to the overflowing of Ganda Nullaha after a blockage in the drain, leading to widespread waterlogging on Saturday.

“This work could have been done earlier, before the monsoons started, but sadly the MC is only undertaking the cleanliness drive now after the situation escalated,” said a resident of Dharampura.

Another resident said earlier, during the continuous rainfall, water had entered their houses and now again black water had entered the streets, emanating a foul smell. The MC should have acted swiftly and all the drains should have been cleared before the monsoons began, he added.
