Shivpuri Temple desecration case cracked, accused nabbed
The Khanna police have nabbed a wanted accused in connection with the Shivpuri Temple desecration case. He has been identified as Mohit (41), a resident of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.
DSP Sukhamrit Singh Randhawa while addressing a press conference stated that on August 15 unknown miscreants had barged into the Shivpuri Temple, where they desecrated the Shivling and stole ornaments adorning the idols.
After thorough investigation, the police had initially arrested Resham Singh of Uttarakhand, Ravi Kumar of Ropar and jeweller Rajiv Kumar of UP after conducting raids. The police also recovered 3 kg silver and a motorcycle from the accused.
The DSP added that one of the accused Mohit had been absconding. He added that the police got tip-off about the whereabouts of the accused in UP. Accordingly, a special police team was formed, which conducted a raid in UP and nabbed the accused on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Khanna SSP Ashwini Gotyal said that Mohit was facing 12 criminal cases registered against him in the past in Dehradun, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Shimlapuri and Karnataka. Further questioning of the accused is on.
Police sources said that though the gang had also targeted other religious places such as a gurdwara in Delhi, temples were their favourite ones as their main aim was to steal silver ornaments only.
